Yes, it snows, and the town knows how to handle it. Yes, summers are perfect. Yes, you will see mountains from the grocery store parking lot and it never gets old. The airport is 20 minutes away, the school options are strong, and your friends will suddenly want to visit every July.

Should I move to Bend, Oregon?
If you want small-city life with big outdoor access, Bend is hard to beat: around 105,000 people, roughly 300 days of sunshine, and trails, rivers, and mountains minutes from every neighborhood. My honest advice is to visit in both February and July before you commit. If you love both versions of Bend, you will love living here.
What does it cost to live in Bend compared to California?
Most of my relocation buyers from the Bay Area and LA find that their home sale funds a significant upgrade in Bend, where $800K to $1.2M buys newer construction with a real yard. Oregon has no state sales tax, though income tax differs from California, so run the numbers with your CPA. Day-to-day costs like groceries and insurance generally run lower than coastal California.
What is the best neighborhood in Bend for relocating families?
It depends on how you live, which is why I walk every buyer through Bend’s four quadrants first. NorthWest Crossing and Discovery West are favorites for walkability and schools, Northeast Bend gives the most home for the money, and Southeast Bend has newer construction and room to grow. Is Bend, Oregon a good place to live year round?
Yes, and I say that as an Oregonian who has lived here since 2006. Winters bring some snow, though most storms drop an inch or two and the sun usually returns fast. Summers are dry, warm, and famous for a reason. The seasons are a feature, not a bug: skiing in the morning and river time by afternoon happens here every spring.
